Program Type

High Top Ranch is an educational boarding school and residential school providing treatment for troubled youths, located on a ranch in south-central Utah.

Program Description

Enrollment for High Top Ranch is limited to around 20 students. We have deliberately chosen to be small in enrollment yet rich in experiences and services. We specialize in individualized approaches to the development of your child. We provide a comprehensive program of school, therapy, community service, ranch work and activities. We help all our students to find themselves, develop civility, correct academic deficiencies, get well, and experience success. We deeply believe all young people can learn and do anything they desire.

Facilities

High Top Ranch School is located in the beautiful south-central Utah mountain country of Koosharem, Utah. This ranch is a cattle and horse operation which has been in the Sorenson family for three generations. The valley has a pinion-juniper-sage type climate. The nearest town of any note is 35 miles away giving Koosharem a wonderful sense of serenity and isolation. Grass Valley is three miles wide and 14 miles long with five small streams running into it. Nearby mountains rise to 12,000 feet and have abundant wildlife. The location lends itself to unlimited outdoor opportunities.

School Credentials

High Top Ranch is a licensed residential treatment facility that includes drug and alcohol treatment. They are a facility accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. They are also licensed as a mental health and substance-abuse treatment center with the Utah State Human Services Department and are accredited by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

Academics

The High Top program is year-round. Our competency-based curriculum provides all the courses necessary for the student to earn a Utah State high school diploma. Classes are based on a mastery of skills rather than on “seat time”; the school features no quarters or semester systems.

Follow-up Program

High top will coordinate with the parents on the follow-up plan. It all depends on the child’s progress through the Program.

Tuition

Tuition at Hight Top is $4,000.00 per month, and a one time startup up fee of $2000 is required. High Top operates entirely on tuition money received and there are no scholarships available. In some cases, religious organizations, state agencies, or insurance companies (depending on the individual policy) will help with some tuition. (Pre-authorization is required.)
